    Boy Scouts of America Troops 76 & 9706 are doing the Opening Flag Ceremony at the Outdoor Show.  They will also sell funnel cakes to raise funds for summer camp.

    We will celebrate the bygone days of this 1700s village.
    Enjoy a relaxing day in this once-bustling, now-quiet hamlet.
    Activities usually include (Double check closer to the event date):
    Ashley Creek -Native American lore, language, culture.
    Historical reenactors encampment – French & Indian, Civil War: Rick Norris – 18th C. encampment. Brian Hall, 18th-century reenactor.
    MaryAnne Lister shares information about the Fort Edwards Foundation and upcoming events.
    Old time music jam on the porch
    Folks clog/buck or flat foot dance
    Interpretive hay-less ride around the hamlet.
    Rob Wolford, Black smith.
    Model A & Model T Fords.
    Kim Straw and others display some steam engines & antique tractors.
    The North River Mills United Methodist Church folks provide refreshments.
    The adjacent quiet dirt lane is a nice place for a hike.

    North River Mills was designated a “Historical Landmark”. If you have old photos ( people or structures of the village), we would love to scan them. Often old timers come to swap stories of North River Mills, giving the day a homecoming feel.
    Ted Kalvitis, the antique tractor guru, and his better half, Stephanie, host the Narrow Gallery (corn crib) Art Show. (Contact us if you’re interested in exhibiting.)
    Ice Mountain/ North River Mills docents may lead hikes to the cold vents (probably early.)

    This is a description of the 2022 event.

    • A fun-filled, family-friendly event
    • Witness regiments in period attire performing drills.
    • Local Artisans and Colonial wares on display and for sale. Lunch items on sale between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM
    • Experience the lifestyle of Joseph Edwards and the other settlers of mid-eighteenth century Hampshire County.
    • Admission is free. (Donations are graciously accepted.)

    Camping will be allowed both Friday and Saturday nights.
    Access to firewood, fresh water and bathrooms.
    All live fire participants will be required to provide their insurance forms at the safety meeting prior to battle.

    Main Events Schedule:
    11:30 am: Battle of Great Cacapon Living History Re-enactment.

    Camps & Live Fire Reenactment Schedule:

    10:00 am – Camps open to public
    11:00 am – Safety Meeting
    11:30 am – April 18, 1756 – Battle of Great Capon Ambush
    1:00 pm – Native American presentation
    2:30 pm – Attack on Edward’s Fort
    4:00 pm – Event Close

    The vision for the Hampshire County Community Event Center is that it will be a multipurpose facility located centrally in Hampshire County at the Hampshire County Fairgrounds. The Community Event Center will be equipped to handle any type of event, whether it’s a livestock show, outdoor show, banquets, weddings, arts & crafts shows, dog shows, rodeos, concerts, meetings or classes. Surrounded by views of the beautiful West Virginia Hills, the Hampshire County Community Event Center will be the premiere venue for events in Hampshire County.

  • Hampshire Highlands Arts & Music Festival

    A fun-filled festival featuring local juried artists, great musicians, dance and tumbling exhibitions, puppet shows, hands-on-art activities for all ages, great food, and giant bubbles for kids.  This year’s festival will host a Plein Air “Quick Draw” Competition.
