Stones Family Gathering 2025
Do the megalithic stones of Avebury and Stonehenge inspire you? Do you wonder about the Carnac Stones of Brittany or the dolmens of Sardinia? These ancient awe-inspiring arrangements of large stones are rooted in traditions going back 10,000 years. Why would people spend their time and effort to move these large stones? We may not have a definitive answer to these questions, but we can help you find out your own motivation by joining us to raise large stones over the long Labor Day weekend in Capon Bridge, West Virginia.
We move stones the old fashioned way with ropes and rollers and people power. Folks coming together in community and a shared goal to leave behind arrangements of large stones that future generations can enjoy and wonder over. And in doing so we form bonds of friendship and community around this amazing work.
Stone Circle Council, LLC will be organizing another Stone Family Gathering over Labor Day weekend at Buffalo Gap Retreat Center. We provide a warm and welcoming environment in which individuals can join us; immersing in nature and engaging in the intentional and inspiring activity of raising stones. Our community espouses no exclusionary belief-system, but rather joins together those who walk their own spiritual pathways with integrity and respect. We welcome families of all shapes and sizes to join us in activities that will encourage independence and leadership skills in the youth, and creativity and imagination of all.
In 2025 we will be meeting again at Buffalo Gap Retreat to add another two stones to our central Trilithon, and two flanking stones. In keeping with our vision statement: “We will focus our intention through the ceremonial raising of stones in any place they are welcomed, needed, and honored.” A variety of activities are planned for young and old alike.
Stones Family Gathering 2025 starts on Thursday, August 28th and continues until Monday, September 1st, 2025. It will be held at Buffalo Gap Retreat which offers a variety of cabin arrangements as well as tenting. Set in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, the retreat center offers a lakefront wood fired sauna, a lake for swimming, kayaking and canoeing all free for guests to use. There is a nearby beach house with an entertainment area, as well as hiking trails with forests, creeks and waterfalls. A food plan is available.
